Canucks Have No Need To Worry, Yet

Ryan Kesler will be doing a lot more signings now that he is injured.

So the Canucks lost again. In a shootout this time, but still. Many fans are starting to get worried. What I have to say about that is “have some patience!” It has only been two games since the start of the season. Historically, the Canucks haven’t done well in the beginning of the season. Injuries have also become a part of the losing equation. Ryan Kesler is out indefinitely after two surgeries, and David Booth is out 4-6 weeks with a groin strain. Those two players equal two-thirds of the Canucks second line. With that hole in the second line, the Canucks are now seriously short on scoring depth. The departure of Sami Salo creates another hole this time in the Canucks’ defense. Not to mention the team hasn’t played together in a long time. They need time to get used to each other and the new arrivals such as Zack Kassian, Jason Garrison, and Chris Tanev.

In a few games and a few full practices the Canucks will, hopefully, be back in the same form they were last year. The only scary part about this, however, is the shortened season. With an 82 game season, the first few games don’t really matter. With a 48 game season every game and every point counts. If the Canucks can’t pull it together in three weeks, then it’s time to worry. Until then, don’t worry, enjoy the fact that you are able to watch live NHL hockey again, and don’t jump off the bandwagon just yet.
