The 1987 Calgary Flames – “Red Hot”
The 1986-87 season was a good one for the Calgary Flames. They finished the season third in the league in points, behind only division-rival Edmonton Oilers and the surprising Philadelphia Flyers (those two would meet in the Stanley Cup Finals, with the Oilers winning the Cup in seven games).
Not to be upstaged by their northern neighbors’ Stanley Cup victory, the Calgary Flames sought out the spotlight… and they did it in song.
The music video, “Red Hot”, was recorded in one day (shocking, I know) and released during the offseason to help raise money for local charities.
Reportedly, the video generated over $20,000; in 2012 dollars, that’d be about $40,000 or so. A nice donation, for sure, but perhaps the players should have ponied up a few loonies from their own pockets. Had they done so, they may have been able to avoid the embarrassment of this performance that will live on forever.
